UPDATE (January 2008!):
Sorry, but I am too swamped and backed up to read unsolicited manuscripts right now. Please don't send me queries or manuscripts until further notice, probably later in '08. You can email me and ask questions if you like but be patient and understand that I am buried.
KS
Slightly revised, October 2007: If you'd like to submit work to Future Tense first e-mail me a query and tell me what you have on mind. I am mostly interested in fiction or personal memoirs. Length is an issue for me, so be aware that my books are usually of the chapbook variety (meaning no more than 48 pages). So if you have a 75,000 word manuscript, I am not going to be your best bet. Also--I should say that I am not interested in genre fictions (sci-fi, mystery, horror, and while we’re at it--no historical fiction). And I’m saying no to all poetry for now (sorry poets). As I revise this page a little (in October of 2007) I have been getting more submissions than usual this year and I want you to understand that I only publish three or four books a year, so your chances are going to be slim, even if I like you!
Please understand further: I often like material that is sent to me but have no ability to publish it due to lack of finances and time. I am doing all this with my bookstore wages and I do have a son to raise, you inconsiderate bastards! He's 13 now and growing like crazy (meaning lots of food bought at that store followed by the purchasing of bigger pants, shoes, etc.). If you're a parent, you know what I'm saying. After an e-mail query I may ask you to send me the manuscript with an SASE. But I do have to be ultra-picky. It will take me up to three months to get back to you.
